Big day today. Bigger day tomorrow. I thought I'd warm up with a trip to Ozone Park.
R1 - #5 Forward Move (8-1) Although the favorite (#7) looks far superior to the rest of these on paper, he's burned a crapload of money recently and doesn't look to have a nose for the finish line. I like that this #5 has done his best work sprinting on dirt after repeated failures on the lawn. He has the look of a horse that's maturing late - nice workout since the last winning try as well.
R2 - #4 Air Show (10-1) Third try off the bench with a drop in class for an older horse is an angle I use at times and it seems to fit here. Most of the money will go to the 2 and 3 and neither is all that impressive.
R3 - #4 Darn That Song (8-5) Not a lock by any means but should hold off this bunch in the stretch. I'll be white knuckled in the last sixteenth for sure.
R4 - #3 Settling Storm (5-2) She seems to do her best on the softer surface, but I like that she can win from the lead or coming from off the pace. I like a couple of shots underneath (3/5,9).
R5 - #8 Pretty Liza (8-1) I think the two fillies to her outside will run and gun for the lead. If Silvera can settle behind them and get first run in the stretch it would be a perfect trip scenario. So hard to tell what kind of talent these babies have sometimes.
R6 - #1 Poppy's Pride (6-1) If he moves forward at all off that first try after the layoff he will be right there at a more than fair price. Always nice to root for a Luzzi at Aqueduct.
R7 - #7 Bring Me A Check (4-1) I'll hold my nose and place this wager (Katie Davis on grass, ugh!). But he's been in the mix every race since going to work for Maker/Dubb and their magic sauce.
R8 - #5 Epitaph (3-1) Just looks miles the best here. Contessa not normally that good with 2 year-olds, but who's he got to beat?
R9 - #10 Bolt d'Plata (6-1) Ran his best lifetime Beyer the last time he went from route to sprint. Adding blinkers makes a lot of sense, hopefully Maragh won't leave him with too much to do in the stretch.
Good luck today to everyone playing the Breeder's Cup races. I'll probably be posting live for those.
